How do you judge the success of your week?
Rather, I should pose this question as: how do you judge the success of your week as it relates to your goals?
There’s a difference there.
For example, there was a time in my life when the ONLY thing I used to judge my success was chasing the number at the end of the week. But, the reality was that this by itself wasn't fueling my success. In some cases, it prevented it.
As another example, I’ve judged my success by the intensity of my weekly key sessions. Did I run as hard as I could? Did I beat the workout? Did I set a workout PR? I often lied to myself by thinking that by training this way I’d have more to give on race day. It’s hard to race well when it matters when you race your training each week.
Anyways…
Both of these are wonderful ways to distract you from the real goal, which should be to run faster on race day and continue to make improvements over a given training block.
So, I’ll leave you with the same question as before:
How do you judge the success of your week?
Think about it.
And find ways that you can better serve yourself to make real progress.
Happy Sunday!
